Joseph couldn't sleep, ever since that night in the club where he had turned up his senses they hadn't quite come back down to a normal level. That night and events after it had been rather interesting and he still had it all running through his head but that was another problem. Right now what he had to deal with was the fact that his senses, were for some reason randomly dialing up and down, one moment he would just be enjoying a nice cup of coffee and the next he would be able to smell the flowers from the park a few blocks away... with his windows shut.
Right now his senses, in particular smell and hearing, were dialed up to eleven and that meant he couldn't sleep at all. He considered calling his parents and asking his dad for some advice about how to deal with it but he didn't know what kinds of questions might be asked, and his dad was very good at knowing when someone lied just based on the sound of a heart beat... even over a phone.
So laying in bed Joseph stared up at the ceiling, just wishing that he could fall asleep. If he was going to be able to teach class tomorrow he would need to get some sleep, otherwise he might just rip a students face off in a very literal sense. He was very seriously considering trying to sleep in a closet to remove stimuli when he heard it.
It was faint, even to him at that very moment it was incredibly faint.
Breathing, very heavy breathing, labored with what might be an edge of panic, and footsteps to, uneven, as if fleeing from something but stumbling when turning back to take a look at what was chasing. Just the sort of things a vampires senses were tuned in for, fleeing prey.
There was more, more footsteps behind the first set, more people breathing, heavy but steady.
TO Joseph it sounded like there was someone in trouble, and while he was one to avoid trouble himself the thought that there might be someone in need of help didn't sit right. Besides, in addition to the out of control senses he had felt an uncharacteristic increase in blood lust, for some reason he wanted to hit something... and this seemed like it might give him a chance.
Pulling on his favorite long brown coat Joseph ducked out through a window and dashed down a fire escape, running at considerable speed toward the source of the noise that had interrupted his attempt to sleep.
